The way people consume information has changed drastically over the last few years and everyone has had to make adjustments — not just the media. If your organization is not functioning as your own media outlet, you are not taking advantage of your greatest asset — your complete access.
You know your organization more intimately than anyone else. Or, at least you should know it better than anyone else! By taking advantage of your own resources, you are your greatest ally.
If you still aren’t convinced, here are a few reasons why your organization should put forth quality time and effort into your content.
Content is King. We have all heard this phrase way too many times, quite frankly. And, though it is true, you should not produce content for the sake of content. Have a plan and a purpose behind what you have to say. So, let’s rephrase… QUALITY Content is King.
Insider information. You have a secret. Maybe you don’t know it yet, but pay attention. You hold information and access that no one else has. Use it. Everyone wants to feel like they are a part of something. If you use your content in the right way, you grant your audience that special feeling of knowing something that others do not know.
Make time. There is no hiding that it’s tough to set aside time to promote yourself in this way. But it is imperative to your organization’s growth. To get started, schedule time every day if you are afraid you won’t be able to make it work.
Tell your story. Everyone has a story to tell so do not be afraid to tell yours. When telling your own story, you have the ability to craft it the way you want it to be told. That is a lot of power.
But, leave them wanting more. Always leave your audience craving more from you. Although you want to offer interesting and useful information, it is not necessary to show all of your cards. Keep some intrigue, which could lead to a media outlet approaching you to tell your complete story.
If you are waiting for someone else to promote your organization, you might be waiting a very long time. Take control of your content and treat yourself like your own beat writer. You’ll get the scoop every time!
